Business / Boost your sales at the checkout
« on: January 26, 2022, 07:20:08 pm »
You should plan to promote one product at a time. There isn't anything stopping you from SELLING more than one item at a time, you just have to wait until AFTER the first sale has been made.

It's easy for a customer to get confused when there's more than one product offered at unbelievably low prices. So, he starts asking himself, which is better? Maybe he struggles with a preference. A delay in a purchase can lead to a sales loss - one of marketing's greatest thieves. I think it'll be more effective to offer the consumer a range of products that complement his initial purchase... maybe even at the register. You might gain more sales instead of losing them.

Business / Do you need to update your bio?
« on: January 05, 2022, 02:00:22 pm »
At least every year or two, you should re-examine your website's About page. Does it reflect your overall work approach and include recent achievements? Does it make you sound as competent and credible as you know yourself to be? Does it also humanize you at least a little?

Business / Putting it off can work to your advantage
« on: December 15, 2021, 12:50:23 pm »
Everyone, to some degree, procrastinates. We all put off things that we don't want to do. That doesn't mean we do nothing. Most procrastinators get plenty done. But it isn't what is most important or urgent. Procrastination is the art of doing something other than the more important things to do.

There is a way to make procrastination work for you. Since we all have this skill to varying degrees, why not put it to use?

The act of delaying is the true gift of procrastination. Until now you might not have thought of it as a gift, but it is. Many people get overbooked and overload their schedules. They take on too many activities and commitments they don't want to do. Often because they said yes before they thought about it. Delaying is a great way to prevent over-scheduling. You can avoid saying yes to things you should decline. When someone asks you to do something, respond that you need to check your schedule. Ask for a day or two to think about it and tell them you will get back with your answer. Use procrastination as a tool to prevent yourself from getting overbooked.

Procrastination will also assist with getting a lot done. I know it sounds strange, but it works. The trick is to have a major project that needs completion, but that you don't want to do. The key is to leverage the advantage of procrastination. Let it move you to complete all the jobs you want to get done. You will still have time to complete the big job you have been avoiding.

Procrastination has a bad reputation, but the truth is that it can help you do a great deal. Use procrastination to your advantage. Use it to delay saying yes to everything. This way you will give yourself time to think, and you won't get overbooked. It will also help you get things done. When you are procrastinating, you aren't sitting around. You are doing any task to avoid doing what you need to be doing. That is fine, and actually you will get twice as much done. So stop beating yourself up and enjoy perfecting the art of procrastination.

Business / Strive for quality that you can achieve
« on: November 24, 2021, 10:59:26 am »
Not long ago, I awoke to find that I had not optimized the work that I had done on my website over the previous two days. The user interface was not as intuitive as it could and should have been. It needed to be revised.

It is tempting to ignore such thoughts. The gap between how it is and what it could and should be is something most people do not care about.

Yet when you know that something you did was substandard, you cannot ignore it. If you develop a habit of disregarding your own business (or personal life), eventually things will go awry.

Rather, redo the work. Consider what needs to be changed so that you are able to achieve the right quality level with your first attempt next time.

Taking the initiative to redo the work is not a sign of perfection. You are not striving for perfection. Taking the initiative to redo the work is not a sign of anxiety. Customers deserve the best service. Quality that you can certainly provide. A standard of excellence that allows you to be satisfied with your work.

General Forum / Giving back to your local community

Before the start of the pandemic, Canadians made 1.1 million visits to food banks across Canada in a typical month. Regularly, low-income households must choose between rent, utilities, childcare, medicine, and food in order to make ends meet. Unfortunately, this has become a reality for many more Canadians in recent months, and food banks have been significantly impacted across the country.

While non-perishable food is always put to good use, monetary contributions are also very important to food banks. Cash donations make it possible for them to purchase fresh items such as produce, bread and milk for those in need, and fill in any gaps in non-perishables.

Business / Give your blog a fresh look
« on: July 20, 2021, 10:20:45 pm »
Blog design is important.

Your template/theme has got to be modern with a focus on readability and speed. And, as your blog grows, you may find you’ve outgrown your current design.

If you tinker with your blog design like I do, this is an ideal time to roll out an eye-catching design.

Depending on which blog platform you use, you’ll have different options available to you.

If you use WordPress, there are lots of themes for bloggers.

I love Studio Press themes, but they offer little in the way of customisation.

While I go for premium themes, there are some great free themes worth checking out.

Remember to go through your blog to check for any issues after you switch themes.

Business / Always state the benefits when selling
« on: June 29, 2021, 10:57:39 pm »
When was the last time you bought a car? Did you really NEED a car? I mean, REALLY need a car? Chances are the one you were driving was still running when you bought the car you have now. Canadians rarely buy because they need... they buy because they want to experience the feeling that comes with buying.

We enjoy new purchases. Sure, we can convince ourselves that we needed a new one, but if we're honest, we must admit that we could've got by without it. What does this mean to your advertising campaign?

Capitalize on the ways a customer will improve his lifestyle by making the purchase. Will he increase his own business profits by 50 percent? Say so in the opening statement of your sales letter, or at the top of your Web page.

Don't obsess with the features of the product itself or your credibility. Frankly, customers couldn't care less. Let's face it... they're selfish when it comes to dishing out their hard earned money. All they want to know is what's in it for them.

What about your sales materials? Have you inspected the things you are advertising? Make sure you focus on the benefits the consumer will experience from the purchase, and not on the features of the product or service.

Business / A Special Insight for Special Clients
« on: December 30, 2020, 10:41:28 pm »
Nearly everyone likes to get the inside story, the backstage tour, a peek behind the curtain – coming face to face with the unvarnished real deal in some sphere of life that deeply engages them. So get thinking about how you can offer something along those lines to your best customers.
This works best not as something that can be bought, nor as something that’s free for all, but rather as a privilege for your highest-spending clients.

It might consist of lunch with you at your industry’s annual trade show. Or a conference call in which you answer detailed questions about how you became successful. Or stuff you share from your private archives. When you choose well, your perk has a value beyond money.

A good example is the mail-order mogul who created a video of a typical day in his business. It showed him opening his mail, preparing orders to send out, reviewing ads – all boring for anyone other than neophytes in his field, who felt thrilled to see these steps fleshed out in living colour.

Business / You can learn from your mistakes

Everyone makes mistakes. The key is to use mistakes to build a better business. Don't be afraid to criticize your own errors and then change them.

There are many cases of small retailers trying to be something they are not. Great retailers choose their strength in the market.

Business / Re: Designing an effective company logo
« on: October 14, 2020, 09:07:26 pm »
Make sure your logo is balanced and has symmetry. Also, make sure your logo colours and typeface are complementary to other logos or company designs you have so that everything works together. Look on Google to learn about principles of proportion or balance and get some ideas.

Business / Use lighting to define your business
« on: October 14, 2020, 09:02:28 pm »
Whether you want to have a bright store or slightly darkened atmosphere, consistent lighting throughout is a must. But go the extra mile and use different kinds of lighting, spotlights etc., to direct the customer's eyes towards certain departments. Usually these are the areas at the back of the store.

Business / Understand your finances
« on: October 07, 2020, 09:20:43 pm »
Too many businesses suffer not because the customers aren't buying, but because the owners fail to take care of the financial end of the business. Work hard to understand the accounting end of your business so you never get into trouble.

Business / Wide aisles for health and safety
« on: September 30, 2020, 09:50:24 pm »
Considering the Covid-19 pandemic, wide aisles are simply more enjoyable to walk through. They are also easier to shop in when four or five customers are in the same aisle. Seniors and customers with baby strollers appreciate them. You may not have room to make every aisle the perfect width, so put a priority on your power aisle and high-traffic areas.
